Description / 1/2 in. PEX-A x 1/2 in. Female Copper Sweat Elbow (NSF Lead Free Brass F1960 PEX Cold Expansion Fitting)
The 247Garden 1/2-inch PEX-A x 1/2-inch Female Copper Sweat Elbow is a professional-grade brass plumbing fitting designed to transition 1/2-inch PEX-A tubing to 1/2-inch copper pipe at a 90-degree angle. Built from lead-free brass and NSF certified for potable water, this fitting meets ASTM F1960 standards for cold expansion PEX installations, ensuring reliable performance in residential and commercial water distribution systems.
This elbow combines the speed and flexibility of PEX-A connections with the strength of traditional copper solder joints. The PEX-A side installs using an expander tool and expansion rings, while the copper side requires soldering for a long-lasting and leak-free bond.

Installation Instructions
Step 1: Install the Copper Side First
-
Cut the copper pipe square and clean both the pipe and the inside of the female sweat fitting with emery cloth or a wire brush.
-
Apply a thin coat of lead-free flux to both surfaces.
-
Insert the copper pipe fully into the elbow.
-
Heat the joint evenly with a propane torch, then apply lead-free solder until it flows completely around the joint.
-
Allow the joint to cool naturally—never quench with water.
-
Wipe away any remaining flux after cooling.
Step 2: Connect the PEX-A Side
-
Cut the 1/2-inch PEX-A tubing squarely using a PEX cutter. Ensure the end is smooth and burr-free.
-
Slide a 1/2-inch PEX expansion ring onto the tubing.
-
Use a PEX expansion tool to expand the tubing, rotating slightly between expansions for a uniform opening.
-
Quickly insert the PEX-A tubing onto the brass fitting until it seats fully against the shoulder.
-
Hold for a few seconds while the tubing contracts naturally around the fitting to form a tight seal.
Tips and Tricks for Best Results
-
Always solder first. Torch heat can damage PEX if it’s connected before copper.
-
Use lead-free solder and flux only to meet potable water standards.
-
Avoid overheating. Apply steady heat and let solder wick naturally for a stronger joint.
-
Prep thoroughly. Clean copper surfaces and remove all burrs from tubing ends before installation.
-
Keep PEX away from flame. Protect PEX pipe and fittings when soldering nearby joints.
-
Allow full contraction. Do not force or rush the PEX shrink process—this ensures the tightest seal.
-
Test under pressure before putting the system into service to confirm leak-free performance.
