Installation Instructions
Copper Sweat Side:
-
Clean the outside of the copper pipe and the inside of the female sweat fitting with emery cloth or a wire brush.
-
Apply a thin, even layer of lead-free soldering flux to both surfaces.
-
Insert the copper pipe into the female sweat elbow until it bottoms out.
-
Heat the joint evenly with a propane torch and apply lead-free solder. Allow the solder to flow completely around the connection.
-
Remove heat and let the joint cool naturally before pressurizing the system.
PEX-A Side (Expansion Connection):
-
Cut the 3/4-inch PEX-A pipe squarely using a PEX cutter. Ensure the end is clean and free of burrs.
-
Slide a 3/4-inch PEX expansion ring over the end of the pipe.
-
Insert the pipe into the expansion tool and expand the tubing fully according to the tool manufacturer’s instructions. Rotate slightly between expansions for an even fit.
-
Immediately insert the PEX-A pipe over the brass end of the fitting until it seats fully against the shoulder. The pipe will contract over the fitting, forming a secure connection.
Why Choose 247Garden Brass Fittings:
-
Manufactured from durable lead-free brass
-
Certified safe for potable water systems
-
Designed to meet the highest plumbing standards
-
Engineered for secure and leak-resistant transitions
Note:
1. Always prepare and solder the copper side first.
-
The sweat joint requires heating with a propane torch. If you install the PEX-A side first, the heat from soldering can damage the PEX pipe and fitting.
-
Clean, flux, insert, heat, and solder the copper pipe into the female sweat elbow.
-
Allow the joint to cool naturally. Wipe off any excess flux residue after cooling.
2. After the copper side is completely cooled, install the PEX-A side.
-
Slide the expansion ring onto the PEX-A tubing.
-
Expand the PEX-A pipe with the expander tool.
-
Insert the fitting until the pipe seats fully against the shoulder.
-
Let the pipe contract over the fitting to form a watertight seal.
Important Tips:
-
Never quench the soldered copper joint with water; let it cool on its own before connecting the PEX-A.
-
Keep the PEX pipe and fitting away from open flame.
-
Always use lead-free solder and flux approved for potable water.
This sequence ensures you don’t expose the PEX material to high heat, which could compromise the fitting.
